Cyprus Municipalities Express Concern Over 'Lambatzi' Disorder

The President of the Union of Cyprus Municipalities, Andreas Vyras, expressed strong concern regarding the phenomenon of 'Lambatzi' (traditional Easter mischief), emphasizing that it is not a simple custom but a source of illegal behavior that begins as early as Christmas and peaks on Holy Saturday. Following a meeting with the Minister of Justice, Mr. Vyras stressed the need for close cooperation between the Police, Fire Service, and Municipalities to prevent crime and ensure public safety. The Union of Municipalities calls on all stakeholders to act promptly and in coordination to protect citizens and maintain social cohesion during the festive season. The problem is not limited to the performance of the custom, but to the worrying collection of materials in neighborhoods and municipalities, which can take on dangerous dimensions.
