Northern Lights Visible in Greece Amid Strong Geomagnetic Storm

A spectacular display of the Northern Lights was visible in various parts of Greece, such as in Chortiati, Thessaloniki, and Corfu, due to an extremely strong geomagnetic storm of category G4 – the strongest in the last 20 years. The solar storm, which began on Monday, may cause problems with power grids and satellite operations. The phenomenon, usually observed in extreme northern latitudes, became visible in unusually southern locations due to the intensity of the storm. Experts report that the current solar storm is the strongest recorded since 2003, while similar events caused problems in other European countries in 2023.
