Nordic Countries Seek to Enhance Cooperation with Greenland

Ministers from the Nordic countries are meeting today in Denmark to discuss granting equal status to Greenland and other autonomous regions. This move comes after pressure from former US President Donald Trump to purchase Greenland. The goal is to upgrade the Helsinki Agreement, a cooperation treaty adopted in 1962, to give full rights to the autonomous regions. Greenland had boycotted previous meetings due to a lack of equal participation. The update of the Agreement is considered historic and important for future Nordic cooperation. Despite the desire for greater autonomy, Greenland remains economically dependent on Denmark and is concerned about overexposure to the United States.
