Σύμφωνα με την εφημερίδα Daily Mail, βρετανικό πυρηνοκίνητο υποβρύχιο εξοπλισμένο με πυραύλους κρουζ Tomahawk έχει λάβει θέση στην Αραβική Θάλασσα, για το ενδεχόμενο κλιμάκωσης με το Ιράν.
Πρόκειται για υποβρύχιο εξοπλισμένο με πυραύλους Tomahawk Block IV και τορπίλες Spearfish, που απέπλευσε από το Περθ νωρίτερα αυτόν τον μήνα και ταξίδεψε περίπου 5 χιλιάδες 500 ναυτικά μίλια προς τη Μέση Ανατολή, ανέφερε η Daily Mail.
Η ανάπτυξη έρχεται μετά την έγκριση της Ντάουνινγκ Στριτ να χρησιμοποιήσουν οι Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες βρετανικές βάσεις για επιθέσεις σε ιρανικές θέσεις που απειλούν τα Στενά του Ορμούζ.
H Αραβική Θάλασσα όπου τοποθετείται το βρετανικό υποβρύχιο επικοινωνεί από τα βορειοδυτικά με τον Περσικό Κόλπο μέσω του Κόλπου του Ομάν και των Στενών του Ορμούζ και συνδέεται με την Ερυθρά Θάλασσα μέσω του Κόλπου του Άντεν και των Στενών Μπαμπ ελ Μαντέμπ.
British Nuclear Submarine with Tomahawk in the Arabian Sea
Britain has deployed a nuclear submarine, equipped with Tomahawk cruise missiles, to the Arabian Sea amid rising tensions with Iran. The submarine, which departed from Perth earlier this month, has traveled approximately 5,500 nautical miles to the Middle East. This deployment follows Downing Street's approval for the United States to use British bases to attack Iranian positions threatening the Strait of Hormuz. The Arabian Sea, where the British submarine is positioned, connects to the Persian Gulf via the Gulf of Oman and the Strait of Hormuz, as well as to the Red Sea via the Gulf of Aden and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The presence of the submarine signals an escalation of British involvement in the region and a preparation for potential military action.
