Brazil: COP30 President Calls for a "Roadmap to Unite Countries"

Brazil, as the presidency of COP30, is seeking to create a "roadmap" to reduce countries' dependence on fossil fuels, aiming to unite nations in a global effort. Ambassador André Correa do Lago, president of COP30, stated that Brazil does not wish to divide, but to build upon the agreements reached at COP28 in Dubai. Although an initial agreement was reached at COP28 to phase out fossil fuels, its implementation remains stalled. Brazil presented a roadmap for phasing out fossil fuels and another for deforestation, but these are not general decisions of the COP. The Brazilian presidency will request proposals from countries for the content of the roadmap, with the aim of presenting it at the informal ministerial meeting of the COP in October. Simultaneously, Colombia will host an international conference on the transition from fossil energy sources.
