Slovakia Threatens Retaliation Against Ukraine Over Oil Pipeline

Slovakia has declared a state of emergency for oil supplies following the disruption of Russian flows via the Druzhba pipeline, with Prime Minister Robert Fico threatening retaliation against Ukraine if supplies are not immediately restored. Fico accuses the Ukrainian government of not restarting the flows to pressure Hungary, which opposes Ukraine's EU membership. The Slovak Prime Minister announced the release of 250,000 tons from the country's strategic reserves. Meanwhile, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban accuses Ukraine of blackmail, arguing that it is trying to force Hungary to align with European countries supporting Ukraine. Slovakia is also considering terminating electricity supplies to Ukraine. Hungary and Slovakia have requested Croatia to allow the transit of Russian oil via the Adria pipeline, but there are technical and economic obstacles. The European Commission is reviewing the issue and is prepared to convene a meeting. Although the situation is concerning, there are currently no immediate risks to supply, as both countries have reserves equivalent to 90 days of consumption. This dispute highlights the vulnerability of energy security in Europe and the need for diversification of energy sources.
