Violanta Factory Fire Caused by Long-Term Propane Leak

The fatal explosion and fire at the 'Violanta' factory in Trikala were caused by an extensive, months-long propane leak in the ground, according to the findings of the investigation by the Arson Crime Directorate. The leak was located in underground pipelines running beneath paved areas and supplying the factory's ovens. The concentration of propane was extremely high, and in the presence of a spark from electromechanical equipment, it caused the explosion. At the time of the fire, 13 people were in the factory, resulting in the death of five female workers. The Fire Department mobilized significant forces to deal with the fire, while an investigative inquiry was conducted with the participation of various services and experts.
