The upgrade and widening works of the road network at the Agios Dometios checkpoint have been completed, almost fifteen days after the initial schedule. Two new booths for vehicle control have been installed, the third lane of traffic has been asphalted and a pedestrian path has been created. In total, there are now seven booths at the checkpoint, which are expected to be staffed by the Cyprus Police at the end of February. The Police will carry out the necessary checks on vehicles and drivers. Turkish Cypriots who crossed the checkpoint reported that it took about twenty minutes to pass, despite initial reports of long delays of up to two hours. The completion of the works is expected to improve traffic flow and the safety of checkpoint users, facilitating the passage of vehicles and pedestrians.
