Video Conference Held by 35 Countries to Discuss Reopening of Strait of Hormuz

The Chief of Staff of the French Armed Forces, Air Chief Marshal Fabien Mandon, held a video conference with representatives from 35 countries to discuss ways to restore navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. The Ministry of Defense stated that the initiative is defensive and not related to current military operations. The goal is to organize the safe resumption of navigation after the end of hostilities. Britain and France are expected to co-chair a meeting of around 30 countries to create an international coalition to secure the Strait of Hormuz. Poland, on the other hand, has announced measures to address high fuel prices, such as reducing VAT and excise duties, as well as potentially imposing a windfall tax on energy companies. These measures led to a decline in the shares of the state-owned Orlen refinery. Governments across Europe are taking steps to limit the impact of the war in Iran on fuel prices. Romania and Hungary are also considering imposing price caps. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced a reduction in VAT on fuels from 23% to 8% and a reduction in excise duty to the EU minimum levels. The situation in the Strait of Hormuz and the rise in fuel prices pose significant challenges to the global economy and energy security. International cooperation and measures to stabilize prices are crucial to avoid further economic consequences.
