NASA’s Artemis II Rocket in Position for First Crewed Lunar Mission in Half a Century

NASA’s new rocket, Artemis II, has been moved to the launchpad in Florida, preparing for the first crewed mission to the Moon in over 50 years. The transport of the giant 98-meter-tall system took 12 hours to cover a distance of just 6.5 kilometers. Final tests will follow, with the launch expected on February 6th. The crew consists of four astronauts: Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen. Artemis II will not land on the Moon, but will pave the way for Artemis III, which will attempt a lunar landing. A key part of the Orion spacecraft was built in Bremen, Germany by Airbus, as a contribution from the European Space Agency.
