Cyprus mourns the loss of Ioanna Kekkou, the oldest enclaved resident of Kormakiti, who passed away at the age of 99. Mrs. Kekkou, a symbol of perseverance and continuity, chose to remain in Kormakiti despite the difficulties and enclavement, never losing hope for a solution. She lived through all the historical turning points of Cyprus, experiencing uprooting and anticipation. She remained rooted in her land, reminding everyone of her presence and the need for reunification. Averof Neofytou expressed his deep sorrow for the loss, emphasizing the greatness of Mrs. Kekkou and her choice to stay in Kormakiti to keep the light and hope alive. The funeral will be held in Kormakiti, where she lived and loved, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, faith, and devotion to her homeland.
