Increased Sentence for Father in Sexual Abuse Case

The prison sentence for a father convicted of raping his underage daughter has been increased from 13 to 15 years, following an appeal by the Attorney General. The initial sentence was deemed insufficient by the prosecution, while the defendant's own appeal was dismissed. The Court of Appeal emphasized that the defendant abused his position of trust as the father and sole guardian of his daughter, as her mother was abroad. Furthermore, the decision highlights the severe psychological consequences suffered by the victim, forcing her to leave her family and receive psychiatric care. The decrees for referring the convicted person to the Supervision Authority and prohibiting residence or employment in places where children are present remain in force. The case was handled by Senior Public Prosecutor Irene Savva.
