Foot-and-Mouth Disease: Three New Cases in Dromolaxia – 'Just the Tip of the Iceberg'

Three new cases of foot-and-mouth disease have been detected in the Dromolaxia-Meneou area, bringing the total number of infected units to 49. Veterinary Services emphasize that the situation is serious and that they are 'just at the tip of the iceberg'. All recommendations from the European Commission have been implemented, and controls, tracing, sampling, culling, and vaccinations continue. 98% of cattle and 72% of sheep and goats have been vaccinated, while efforts are being made to meet the market's meat needs for Easter in a safe manner. Veterinary Services assure that there is no risk to consumer health, as foot-and-mouth disease does not transmit to humans.
