Foot-and-Mouth Disease: Agriculture Department Issues Recommendations in Larnaca, Limassol, and Paphos

The Cyprus Department of Agriculture has issued recommendations to local authorities in Larnaca, Limassol, and Paphos to implement preventative biosecurity measures in livestock areas, aiming to limit the spread of foot-and-mouth disease. These recommendations follow the measures taken in the Municipality of Aradippou. Specifically, it is proposed to install disinfection points (wheel washes or automated systems) at the entrances and exits of livestock areas, with the construction cost covered by the Ministry of Agriculture. In areas with multiple entrances, these should be closed and access should only be through the disinfection points. The Department of Agriculture expressed satisfaction with the response of the Municipality of Aradippou in implementing these measures. This move follows the detection of foot-and-mouth disease cases in areas of Cyprus and aims to protect livestock and public health.
