Foot and Mouth Disease: Information for Livestock Farmers Who Concealed Cases - More Livestock Units in Quarantine

New cases of foot and mouth disease have been detected in two additional livestock units in Cyprus, leading to the implementation of the Veterinary Services' emergency action plan. These measures include the designation of restriction and surveillance zones, as well as the culling and burial of infected animals. Simultaneously, the Veterinary Services are investigating information regarding the possible concealment of cases by livestock farmers, while assuring that those affected were informed in a timely manner. The epidemiological area is considered to be expanding, as the new units are located near the first farm that was affected. The ban on the movement of animals and animal products within the restriction zone is strict, while intensive checks and laboratory tests are being carried out. The Veterinary Services emphasize the importance of timely information for the effective control of the disease.
