Foot-and-Mouth Disease: New Case in Goats and Sheep in Dromolaxia

A new case of foot-and-mouth disease has been detected in goats and sheep in Dromolaxia, as announced by the competent authorities. The case was found in a unit with 110 goats and sheep and was expected, as the area is within the infected zone. In total, the confirmed cases in Cyprus have risen to 42. At the same time, a raid was carried out on a property in the Gerio area, following a complaint, where 23 cattle were found, some of which were not marked. The property was out of operation and the case is being investigated by the Veterinary Services and the Police to take the necessary measures. The authorities emphasize the importance of adhering to disease prevention and control measures, as well as immediately reporting any suspected case. The foot-and-mouth disease epidemic poses a serious threat to livestock and the Cypriot economy.
