Foot-and-Mouth Disease: Akrotiri Livadi Closed to Protect Rare Cattle Population

The Veterinary Services have closed the Akrotiri Livadi area to the public in order to protect the rare population of native cattle from foot-and-mouth disease. Access to the area is prohibited until further notice, with citizens able to reach the orchards via road M1. Akrotiri Livadi is known for its rare cattle which contribute to the preservation of biodiversity and the control of reeds, and is a popular destination for tourists and locals. This decision comes amid concerns about the spread of foot-and-mouth disease in Cyprus and aims to proactively protect livestock.
