Foot-and-Mouth Disease: 260 Animals to be Culled, Farms Quarantined for 21 Days

An outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease at a cattle farm in Livadia, Larnaca, Cyprus, has led to immediate containment measures. Five animals tested positive for the virus, resulting in a decision to cull all 260 animals on the farm. A 21-day quarantine has been imposed on a three-kilometer zone around the affected farm, prohibiting the movement of animals and animal products. Veterinary Services are investigating the source of the virus and conducting checks on surrounding farms. It has been clarified that foot-and-mouth disease does not pose a risk to human health and does not affect the safety of animal products produced in Cyprus.
