Foot-and-Mouth Disease: Minister of Agriculture Continues Meetings in Brussels

While Cyprus faces a foot-and-mouth disease crisis with 13,000 animals at risk and ongoing culling, the Minister of Agriculture, Maria Panagiotou, is in Brussels for meetings. During her visit, she met with European Health Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi, who pledged immediate European support, including the urgent dispatch of vaccines and the use of available funding tools. The EUVET team, which also provided support in the occupied territories in December 2025, is expected to arrive in Cyprus on Tuesday. However, questions regarding the 500,000 vaccines sent to the occupied territories a few days before the first cases appeared in the free areas remain unanswered.
