Cyprus' Motorway Density Compared to Other European Regions

Cyprus has a relatively limited motorway network compared to other European regions. According to Eurostat data, Cyprus has 29.41 km of motorways per 1,000 square kilometers of land area, while regions such as Bremen, South Holland, Utrecht, Budapest, and Vienna have a much higher density of motorways (over 100 km per 1,000 km2). This difference highlights the need for improvement of the road network in Cyprus, as the low density of motorways may contribute to traffic congestion on non-motorway roads. The comparison with other European regions highlights Cyprus's backwardness in the field of transport infrastructure. Improving the road network could have positive effects on the economy, tourism development, and the quality of life of citizens.
