Damascus-SDF Deal Reached: Borders, Oil, and Army

A comprehensive ceasefire and gradual integration agreement between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) has been announced. The agreement, signed by the Syrian President and the SDF commander, provides for an immediate cessation of hostilities and a realignment of forces, with the provinces of Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa being fully handed over to Damascus. It also includes the institutional integration of the Hasaka province into state mechanisms, Syrian government control of borders and energy resources, and the integration of SDF fighters into the state security apparatus. Arrangements are also planned for the management of ISIS prisoners and the removal of non-Syrian PKK officials from the border. A key part of the agreement is the recognition of the cultural and linguistic rights of the Kurds, the regulation of citizenship issues, and the restoration of property rights. Damascus is also committed to continuing the fight against terrorism in coordination with the international coalition, including the United States. This agreement marks a significant shift in the political dynamics of Syria, as it seeks to end armed clashes between the government and the SDF and integrate Kurdish areas into the Syrian state. However, the success of the agreement will depend on the implementation of its provisions and the ability of both sides to cooperate to achieve common goals.
