Christodoulides Presents Five-Point Proposal for Cyprus Talks

President Christodoulides, following a meeting with Turkish Cypriot leader Erhurman and UN envoy Maria Angela Olgina, stated he was not discouraged and presented a five-point proposal for resuming negotiations on the Cyprus issue. The proposal focuses on reaffirming the basis for a solution (UN resolutions and political equality), creating a document outlining convergences achieved up to Cran Montana, differentiating between internal and external aspects of convergence, formally announcing the resumption of talks at an expanded conference, and opening four roadblocks (Kokkina, Louroutzina, Mia Milia, Athienou-Aglandjia). Furthermore, the President expressed readiness to announce additional unilateral measures in favor of Turkish Cypriots. The process will continue with meetings between negotiators and contacts with Erhurman, without the participation of Olgina, with an agreement not to make statements on behalf of the other side. The importance of political equality, which is part of the joint statement, was emphasized.
