Dam Water Levels Rise After Rainfall

Cyprus' dams have shown a significant increase in water levels in recent days, due to rainfall. The total inflow of water into the dams over the last three days amounted to 2,546 thousand cubic meters (TCM), while since the beginning of the season (October 1st), the total inflow has reached 11,268 TCM. The overall dam capacity rose to 11.8% on January 26, 2026, from 11.0% on January 23, 2026, while on the same day last year it was at 26.1%. Despite the increase, the capacity remains lower than last year's levels, with a deficit of approximately 40 million cubic meters of water. The largest inflows were recorded in the Kouris, Asprokremmos and Arminou dams. The rainfall recorded was approximately 50 millimeters on average. Authorities point out that significant further rainfall is still needed to overcome the drought and ensure adequate water reserves. However, continued rainfall is expected in the coming period, albeit on a smaller scale, which will help stabilize inflows.
