World's Most Expensive Cities to Live in 2026: Cyprus' Ranking Revealed

Numbeo has released its annual Cost of Living Index for 2026, ranking cities around the world based on their living expenses. Zurich, Switzerland, tops the list, followed by other Swiss cities like Geneva, Basel, Lausanne, Lugano, and Bern. New York and Reykjavik complete the top ten. Regarding Cyprus, Limassol ranks 191st, Nicosia 235th, Paphos 241st, and Larnaca 245th. The research considers the cost of rent, restaurants, food, and local purchasing power, providing two separate rankings: one including rent and one excluding it. Zurich's high ranking is attributed to the combination of a high cost of living and strong purchasing power. The other Swiss cities are distinguished by high prices for food and restaurants, as well as a vibrant cultural life. The list shows that the cost of living varies significantly depending on the city, with European and American cities dominating the top spots. Cyprus, while not among the most expensive cities, presents a relatively high cost of living compared to other countries in the region.
