Austria: Snow Causes Problems at Vienna Airport

Heavy snowfall in Austria today caused disruptions to transport, including the closure of sections of highways and the temporary suspension of flights at Vienna Airport. More than 230 flights were delayed or cancelled. Airport authorities advised passengers with cancelled flights not to go to the airport. The outer ring road of Vienna (A21) was closed for several hours, and other sections of the highway were temporarily closed due to avalanches and reduced visibility. Power outages were reported in several areas, affecting approximately 30,000 households. The weather is expected to improve by noon, however the risk of avalanches remains high.
