Austria: Two Dead in Avalanches in Tyrol and Styria

A 21-year-old Slovakian and a 41-year-old Austrian were killed today in two separate avalanches in Austria, bringing the total number of deaths from avalanches in the country to seven in two days. The Slovakian skier was off-piste without safety equipment when he was swept away by the avalanche in Styria, while the Austrian died in Tyrol, also off-piste. Authorities are warning skiers to avoid off-piste routes due to the high risk. Five people had died on Friday in avalanches in Tyrol and Vorarlberg. In total, 24 people have died from avalanches in Austria since the beginning of the winter season. Experts emphasize the need for caution and the use of appropriate safety equipment, as weather conditions remain dangerous. Heavy snowfall has significantly increased the risk of avalanches in mountainous areas.
