Price Increases in Fresh Vegetables, Sugar, and Fish in December

Significant price increases were recorded in December for fresh vegetables (23%), sugar (9.6%), and fresh fish and seafood (8.1%), according to the Price Observatory of the Consumer Protection Service. Conversely, price decreases were observed in flour, frozen shellfish and fish, and oil. Overall, out of the 45 basic product categories monitored by the Observatory, 17 recorded an increase and 26 a decrease in December compared to November. Of the categories that recorded a decrease, 13 also had a decrease compared to December of the previous year. In addition to the above, increases were recorded in baby milk (2.2%), processed meats (2.2%), and frozen burgers (2.8%), while decreases were recorded in rice (-3.3%), yogurt (-2.9%), fresh meat (-3.2%), and Cypriot coffee (-2.4%). The Consumer Protection Service notes that the annual inflation rate has been moving towards deflation since the second half of 2025, with rates of -0.9% in July and August, -0.7% in September, -0.3% in October, -0.5% in November, and -0.5% in December 2025.
