Price Increases Dominate January Consumer Price Observatory

The Consumer Price Observatory of the Consumer Protection Service recorded a significant increase in the prices of frozen shellfish/mollusks, fresh vegetables and greens, and flour in January, compared to the previous month. Conversely, a decrease was observed in the prices of sugar, frozen breaded meats, and bread. Of the 45 product categories examined, 35 increased, 9 decreased, and one remained stable (bottled water). The largest increases were recorded in frozen shellfish/mollusks (31.5%), fresh vegetables and greens (14%), and flour (9%). The decreases mainly concerned sugar (-13.4%), frozen breaded meats (-11%) and bread (-4.6%). The Service notes a continuous increase in the number of common products in large supermarkets, with the difference in the value of the most expensive and cheapest basket reaching €138.60 (14.5%). The Consumer Protection Service calls on consumers to use the e-kalathi platform for more informed and advantageous purchases.
