Turkey Criticizes Greek Statements on Patriot Missiles and Cyprus

The Turkish Foreign Ministry has described as "unfortunate and untimely" statements made by Greek officials regarding the deployment of Patriot missile systems to Karpathos and the reinforcement of Cyprus, accusing them of attempting to poison bilateral relations with Greece and create a fait accompli. Furthermore, the Turkish Foreign Ministry reiterated its position on the demilitarized status of the Aegean islands, arguing that there is no doubt about their legal status based on the Treaties of Lausanne and Paris. Turkish Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Oncu Keceli stated that these statements were "superficial" and sought to exploit current developments in the region. He also criticized the attempt to create a "new fait accompli" by those who accuse Turkey of revisionism, characterizing any of their actions as invalid. Regarding Cyprus, the Turkish Foreign Ministry argued that Turkish Cypriots and the pseudo-state are capable of ensuring their security with the support of Turkey, without needing the protection of others. Thus, it rejected criticism of Turkish involvement on the island. In conclusion, the Turkish Foreign Ministry called on those making "baseless claims" and spreading "disinformation" against Turkey to show common sense and refrain from attempting to create faits accomplis, emphasizing the importance of a genuine commitment to peace and stability in the region.
