Police: 11,000 Fireworks Seized in Three Months – Most from Occupied Territories

The Police continue their campaign to prevent and combat youth delinquency related to the use of firecrackers and bonfires, with an increase in the seizure of fireworks. So far in 2026, 11,000 fireworks have been seized, mainly firecrackers, while 20,500 were seized in 2025. The Police warn of the dangers lurking from the use of firecrackers and bonfires, citing incidents of injuries and deaths from previous years. The campaign includes public awareness and patrols in vulnerable areas. The largest quantities of firecrackers come from Turkey and enter the free areas through the occupied territories, while smaller quantities are legally imported from Spain and Poland. The Police and local authorities are working together to collect wood and other materials intended for bonfires, while community police are giving lectures in schools to inform students about the dangers.
