Foot-and-Mouth Crisis: A Void with the Absence of a Food Safety Authority

Cyprus is facing a foot-and-mouth disease crisis, which highlights the lack of a unified Food Safety Authority. The delay in establishing this authority creates problems in coordinating services and responding to crises promptly. The existence of an independent Authority could ensure effective protection of public health and agricultural production. The plan to establish the Authority must be promoted urgently by the Council of Ministers and the Parliament, in order to avoid future delays and protect the agri-food chain.
