Arıklı: Turkey-Pseudostate Closely Monitoring Developments

The “Minister of Transport” of the pseudostate, Erhan Arıklı, declared “sovereignty over its airspace,” responding to the NOTAM issued by the US through the Republic of Cyprus. He characterized the Cyprus NOTAM as “audacious” for not recognizing the “airspace” of the pseudostate and stated that the pseudostate issued its own NOTAM, which was also confirmed by the Turkish Ministry of National Defense. Mr. Arıklı warned that military measures could be taken during their own NOTAM, which could cause delays in civilian flights. He also noted that Israel, the US, France, and Italy are concentrating military forces in “South Cyprus” and that Greece has deployed fighter jets. According to Mr. Arıklı, both Turkey and the pseudostate are closely monitoring developments, repeating Erdoğan’s statement that they have no territorial ambitions but will protect their rights. He argued that there are “two sovereign peoples and states” in Cyprus and that the pseudostate has the same rights to its “airspace” as the Republic of Cyprus.
