Appeals Dismissed in Case of 10-Year-Old Stavros Georgallis' Death

The Court of Appeal in Cyprus has dismissed appeals and upheld the original verdict in the case of the death of 10-year-old Stavros Georgallis. The decision confirms the conviction of Dr. Heraklis Pantelidakis and the acquittal of Dr. Kyriakos Kyriakidis. Stavros Georgallis died in May 2018 after a head injury, when a skull fracture was not detected in his X-ray at the General Hospital of Larnaca. The Court of Appeal ruled that the misdiagnosis of the X-ray was the starting point of the chain of events that led to the child's death. It was highlighted that the lack of a neurosurgeon at the hospital and the delay in transferring the child to a hospital with a neurosurgery clinic contributed to the tragic outcome.
