Land Acquisition by Foreigners: Specific Amendments to be Voted Before Parliament Dissolution

The House Interior Committee has agreed on specific amendments to the law on the acquisition of real estate by foreigners, which will be submitted for a vote before the dissolution of Parliament ahead of parliamentary elections. The amendments aim to ensure that the sale of land to foreigners does not endanger the national security or economic stability of Cyprus. The main changes to be incorporated into the text concern the control of companies operating in Cyprus, in order to prevent the acquisition of land by companies with Turkish interests. The Committee emphasizes the need to prevent the creation of monopolies in vital sectors of the economy by foreign companies. The discussions focused on the need to balance attracting investment with protecting national interests. MPs stressed that Cyprus must be careful in selling land to foreigners, especially companies that may have hidden agendas or endanger the country's sovereignty. The House Interior Committee is expected to approve the final text of the amendments by Monday and submit it to the Plenary of the Parliament for a vote before the dissolution of the body.
