Abvakum Case Postponed Again - Seeking Agreed Facts

The trial of the case involving two monks from the Avvakum Monastery, accused of financial crimes, has been postponed again. The case, which is being heard at the Permanent Criminal Court of Nicosia, was adjourned due to a request from the prosecution to find and agree on admitted facts. The prosecution emphasized that the evidence is voluminous and time is needed to identify the facts that can be commonly accepted and not disputed during the hearing. The aim is to compile a list of admitted facts to narrow the scope of the evidentiary process and speed up the trial. The defense expressed reservations about the acceptance of the proposed facts and stated that it would carefully examine any list submitted by the prosecution. It also clarified that no material witnesses would be accepted and requested a few days to explore the possibility of reaching an agreement on certain points. In addition, the defense submitted a request to modify the restrictive terms imposed on the defendants, requesting that they report to the police station only once a week, as they have fully complied with the terms for two years and no issues have arisen.
