Cyprus Supreme Court Lifts Immunity of MP Nikos Sykas

The Cyprus Supreme Court has decided to lift the parliamentary immunity of Nikos Sykas, following a complaint by his partner alleging assault, which was subsequently withdrawn. The court justified the request of the Legal Service, emphasizing the seriousness of the alleged offenses. Despite the withdrawal of the complaint, the Legal Service maintains that the case should proceed. Mr. Sykas' lawyer had no objection to the lifting of immunity but raised questions about securing testimony, given the withdrawal of the complaint. A court order has also been issued prohibiting the MP from approaching the victim.
