Oldest Enclaved Resident in Occupied Kormakiti Passes Away at 99

Ioanna Kekkou, the oldest enclaved resident in occupied Kormakiti, has passed away at the age of 99. Her funeral will be held tomorrow, Saturday, at the Co-Cathedral of Saint George in Kormakiti. The deceased, along with hundreds of other residents, chose to remain in her village after the Turkish invasion and occupation in 1974, refusing to abandon her homeland. The number of enclaved residents in Kormakiti is gradually decreasing, however, the village remains vibrant thanks to the resettlement of other residents in recent years, with the support of the Schemes offered by the Republic of Cyprus.
