Armeftis Responds to Travel Criticism - "End to Mud and Misinformation"

The Mayor of Limassol, Yannis Armeftis, responds to allegations by Deputy Mayor of Mesa Geitonia, Marios Protopapas, regarding the Municipality's official travel expenses. Mr. Armeftis accuses Mr. Protopapas of distorting reality and politically exploiting the issue, arguing that the travel data is officially recorded and has already been presented to the Municipal Council. According to the data, the total cost of travel for the period 1/7/2024 – 11/9/2025 amounted to €120,727.46, however, a significant portion of this amount relates to cultural missions and the participation of the Philharmonic and other cultural groups of the city in festivals and events abroad. In addition, a large part of the travel was covered by European grants. Mr. Armeftis emphasizes that the actual cost to the Municipality is much lower than the amounts circulating and is estimated to be below €25,000. Furthermore, he strongly criticizes Mr. Protopapas for “crude and sexist behavior” towards other Municipal Councilors and for populism. The Mayor assures that the Municipality will continue to work with transparency and responsibility, taking advantage of European opportunities.
