Inhumane Conditions for Vulnerable People in Cyprus: Family with 6 Children Left Homeless – Another Family Put Their Quadriplegic Child in a Garage

Shocking testimonies about inhumane living conditions for vulnerable families in Cyprus have come to light during a discussion in the Human Rights Committee. Allegations concern families left homeless and without food, including a family from Lebanon with six minor children, as well as cases of children with disabilities living in unsuitable spaces. Specifically, it was reported that a family with six children was left homeless while awaiting repatriation, while another family with a child with quadriplegia was forced to convert the garage of their home into a living space due to the inability to find suitable housing. In another case, an individual lives in a prefab building behind his brother's house without access to basic services. The Deputy Minister of Migration expressed his regret for the situation of the family left homeless, stating that there was confusion due to a change in the asylum application data. However, MPs criticized the services for lack of coordination and indifference. The discussion highlighted shortcomings in the support of vulnerable families and the need for improvement of procedures, as well as close monitoring of cases involving children with disabilities.
