“Open and Honest Meeting” Say Erhurman After Meeting with Christodoulides

TL leader Tufan Erhurman described his meeting with President Christodoulides as “open and honest”. The two leaders agreed to instruct their representatives to continue contacts to cover lost ground in the MoEs and to hold a new meeting in the future. Cooperation in tackling foot-and-mouth disease was discussed, with the T/C side committing to immediately provide 20,000 doses of vaccine. Particular emphasis was placed on the issue of crossing points, with Erhurman proposing the opening of the Mia Milia crossing for vehicles, while for the Paphos Gate he preferred opening for pedestrians due to its proximity to Ledra Street. Regarding humanitarian issues, Erhurman announced an upcoming visit to the school of displaced Greek Cypriots in Rizokarpaso, emphasizing that the decision was not due to pressure from President Christodoulides, but out of respect for human rights. He also referred to the issue of education for Turkish Cypriot students in Limassol. Finally, the issue of mixed marriages was discussed, with Erhurman handing over data to President Christodoulides, while reiterating his position on the need to restart negotiations from where they left off in Cran Montana, as well as the view that the non-resolution of the Cyprus problem is due to the “unwillingness of Greek Cypriot leadership to share power and wealth”.
