The Cypriot Police are on high alert due to an undeclared war between local criminal factions and foreign organizations seeking control of the nightlife. The investigation focuses on the involvement of the Vor V Zakone criminal organization, allegedly linked to a series of violent crimes, including the murders of Alexis Mavromichalis and Stavros Demosthenous, as well as an attempted murder. Authorities are also investigating arson attacks and assaults on properties, including those of a Russian businessman and an Israeli-owned hotel, as part of the escalating violence. The situation has led to requests for assistance from Athens and initiatives to establish a specialized organized crime unit, similar to the FBI. Specifically, the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, has established direct communication between the heads of the police forces of Cyprus and Greece for information exchange. Simultaneously, the relationship between a Cypriot gang leader and a convicted businessman, wanted by Greek authorities, is under investigation. The case is also linked to the wanted Annie Alexui, who is alleged to have targeted the individual. Former heads of the Cypriot Police, such as Kypros Michaelides, emphasize the importance of the investigation to clarify the allegations and deliver justice. These developments highlight the growing threat of organized crime in Cyprus and the need for a dynamic response.
