Annetta Dimitriou: Steadfast Support for Ukraine - "Same Solidarity for Cyprus"

The President of DISY, Annetta Dimitriou, expressed the European Union's steadfast support for Ukraine, on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the Russian invasion. She emphasized that the EU must continue to stand united and in solidarity, defending European principles and values. At the same time, Ms. Dimitriou underlined the need for Europe to demonstrate the same solidarity towards Cyprus, pointing out that European values cannot be applied selectively. The statement by the President of DISY condemns the violation of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, characterizing the invasion as a blatant violation of international law. It emphasizes that respect for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of states is non-negotiable. Annetta Dimitriou states that the EU must move forward decisively towards its strategic autonomy, investing in defense and strengthening its ability to deal with modern challenges. She reiterates the demand for the same solidarity and commitment to international law towards Cyprus, which continues to experience the consequences of the invasion and occupation. Finally, the President of DISY calls on Europe to support the dialogue for the resolution of the Cyprus issue based on UN resolutions and international law, condemning Turkey's position for a two-state solution. The Democratic Rally remains firmly committed to defending legality, peace and security, with faith in the principles and vision of Europe.
