Pensioners' Organizations Express Concern over Postponement of Third-Party Liability Insurance Bill

Pensioners' organizations have expressed strong concern and protest over the postponement of the discussion and vote on a bill regarding third-party liability insurance for the elderly. The bill, submitted by MP Alexandra Attalidou, had reached the plenary session of the Parliament, but its discussion was postponed at the request of the Democratic Rally, causing surprise among the organizations. The organizations, in a joint statement, note that the issue has been debated in Parliament for three years and that the relevant committee had unanimously agreed on the bill's approval. They consider the last-minute postponement incomprehensible and call on all political parties to bring the bill back to the plenary session immediately. Furthermore, the pensioners' organizations emphasize that the issue directly affects more than 20% of the Cypriot population, referring to the need to protect elderly drivers from financial consequences in the event of an accident. They stress the need not to succumb to pressure from insurance companies. This postponement causes disappointment and concern among pensioners, who believe that the passage of the bill is essential to protect the rights and safety of elderly citizens.
