British Cypriots Express Concern Over UK Travel Advice to Cyprus

The Council of British Cypriots has expressed strong concern over recent travel advice issued by the United Kingdom regarding Cyprus, due to the conflict in the Middle East. They believe these advisories are already causing flight and holiday cancellations, negatively impacting the tourism sector, especially with Easter approaching. They highlight Cyprus's role in regional stability and its provision of humanitarian aid, as well as its current Presidency of the Council of the EU. The Council is calling on the British Foreign Office to review the travel advice to reflect a more balanced assessment of the situation, as the current wording may damage Cyprus's image as a safe destination. They emphasize that terrorism is a global phenomenon and is not limited to the region of Cyprus. The Council of British Cypriots is an organization that promotes Cypriot interests in London and the deepening of bilateral relations. It has occasionally addressed high-ranking British government officials and international actors on issues concerning Cyprus. The letter to Under-Secretary of State for Europe Stephen Doughty is signed by a group of Council representatives, expressing the urgent need for a revision of the travel guidelines.
