DIKO Proposes Foreclosure Suspension Until End of 2026

DIKO is proposing a suspension of foreclosures until the end of 2026, with the aim of protecting the primary residence of borrowers with debts up to €350,000. DIKO President Marios Karoyian stated that despite recent legislative changes, there are still gaps in the framework for protecting borrowers. DIKO also proposes strengthening the role of the Financial Commissioner, making their decisions binding for disputes up to €50,000. Additionally, it is proposed to make the Central Bank's Code of Conduct mandatory for loans that have been repaid by at least 50%, as well as refinancing of primary residences up to the first degree of kinship with strict criteria. These proposals aim to safeguard the primary residence and protect borrowers from abusive practices.
