Zygi Core Renewal: €2 Million Investment to Enhance the Area

The Larnaca Provincial Administration has announced a €2 million tender for the second phase of the Zygi core renovation, scheduled to begin in 2026 and co-funded by the THALIA Program. The project includes paving, sidewalks, urban equipment, lighting, and underground utility services. A significant enhancement of green spaces and recreational areas is also planned. Furthermore, the construction of futsal, volleyball, and basketball courts in Zygi is expected to commence in 2026, with a cost of €457,000. Simultaneously, the renovation of the coastal road, with a budget of €1.7 million, is ongoing and expected to be completed by August 2026. Despite delays in internal design due to funding shortages, the Fisheries and Maritime Museum is anticipated to open its doors in 2026. The Zygi Community Council is actively seeking European funding for the museum's equipment and interior design, estimated at €150,000. The museum will showcase exhibits related to fishing and the sea, including boats, tools, nets, and artifacts used by fishermen. The overall renovation of Zygi is expected to improve the area's appearance and provide enhanced infrastructure and leisure spaces for residents and visitors.
