Developments Expected in the Phaedonos Case: Attorney General Reviews Information, Legal Service Decides

Significant developments are expected in the coming days regarding the Municipality of Paphos and suspended Mayor Phaedonas Phaedonos, both concerning the criminal investigation into alleged felony offenses and the investigation into possible arbitrariness during his tenure. The Legal Service is reviewing a complaint file with four aspects, regarding illegal use of official vehicles, illegal hires, urban planning irregularities on Turkish Cypriot property, and arbitrary allocation of funds for student dormitories. A meeting is expected at the Legal Service within 24 hours, to assess whether there is sufficient evidence to prosecute or whether further investigative actions are needed. At the same time, the Audit Office continues to collect evidence, with the Attorney General receiving information from people who are about to testify. The Municipality of Paphos's urban planning decisions and the practices followed regarding compensatory fees for urban planning relaxations will be at the center of the audit. This indicates a broader investigation into potential irregularities in the Municipality's urban planning policy. Furthermore, the case file for the rape complaint against Phaedonas Phaedonos is nearing completion, with investigators preparing their final report with their recommendations. The file is expected to be delivered to the Legal Service within the week.
