Revised Housing Schemes for Mountainous and Border Regions: Grant Increased by 20% for Refugees

Housing schemes for mountainous, border and disadvantaged areas have been revised to make them more attractive to beneficiaries. The changes include a 20% increase in the grant for displaced persons, an increase in the maximum amounts of financial assistance and income criteria, as well as additional support for large families. The schemes, which have been in effect since 2019, provide financial assistance for the purchase of a home in specific areas, based on income criteria and family composition. By 2025, 2,892 applications had been submitted, of which 2,027 were approved, with a total amount of grants of 77 million euros. In addition, the requirement for a minimum period of residence in the Republic for Cypriot citizens, returnees and permanent residents has been removed, and the possibility of combining the schemes with other energy upgrade programs is provided. Applications will be accepted until December 31, 2027. These changes aim to revitalize the countryside and disadvantaged areas, as well as strengthen their demographic composition, by offering incentives to acquire housing in these areas.
