Concerns Raised Over Assigning Role to Broadcasting Authority for Political Ad Control

There is concern and opposition within the Interior Committee regarding the bill for the control of political advertising. Assigning the role of supervisory authority to the Broadcasting Authority is causing reactions, as the Authority faces staff and financial resource shortages. The President of the Broadcasting Authority, Rona Kasapi, emphasized that assigning additional duties without adequate support jeopardizes the Authority's role as a guardian of democratic values. The objections are supported by organizations such as the Union of Journalists, the Committee on Journalistic Ethics, and the Publishers' Association. The need for a clear separation between advertising and journalistic content, as well as measurable evaluation criteria, is highlighted. The Committee on Journalistic Ethics proposed that the Ministry of Interior should provide guidance to the media, while ensuring freedom of expression and adopting the regulation.
