Foot-and-Mouth Disease Outbreak Causes Alarm Among Farmers in Aradippou

Great concern prevails among farmers in Aradippou due to the spread of foot-and-mouth disease. Farmers, in collaboration with the Aradippou Municipality, are proceeding with the installation of disinfection tanks, expressing complaints about the state's delay in taking protective measures. The Ministry of Agriculture denies that the measures were taken autonomously by the Municipality, stating that they followed the Ministry's instructions. Aradippou, the largest milk producer in Cyprus, has a significant livestock capital, making the spread of foot-and-mouth disease particularly worrying. The mayor of Aradippou stated that the Municipality took the initiative to prevent the spread of the disease, as happened in other areas. The mayor expressed the need for greater support from the state, while also emphasizing that the Municipality's actions aim to protect the farmers of the area. In addition, he mentioned that road closures will be made to limit access to livestock farms. According to estimates, around 4,500 animals will have to be slaughtered to limit the spread of foot-and-mouth disease. The situation is critical and requires immediate and effective action from all stakeholders.
